Savour the sweeping mountain roads to historic Ronda

From the beaches of the coast we take the spectacular mountain road to Ronda, renowned for its dramatic clifftop location and stunning architecture. Drive through the spectacular pine forests and rugged limestone peaks of the Sierra de La Nieves national park, each bend revealing more of Andalucía’s breathtaking scenery. Upon reaching Ronda, experience the thrill of driving across the iconic Puente Nuevo bridge which spans majestically over the El Tajo gorge.

First Stop – The Roman ruins of Acinipo

Just north of Ronda lies the ancient Roman city of Acinipo which was founded over 2,000 years ago. Acinipo boasts a very well preserved amphitheatre surrounded by rolling farmland plains and ringed by mountain ranges which make for a unique experience evocative of past civilisations and culture. Stretch your legs, relax and breathe in history!

Lunch at a classic Ronda wine vineyard

Within touching distance of Acinipo we stop for lunch at an impressive Andalucian finca and enjoy a tour of the ‘bodegas’ to learn how the prestigious red wines of this region are made.

Take the back roads to Seville

After lunch we make your way to Seville, the captivating capital of Andalucía. The drive is filled with anticipation, as we tour through the Serrania de Ronda mountains with its sweeping bends, and limestone cliffs.
In the distance we pass by whitewashed villages like Zahara de la Sierra perched on rocky outcrops and topped by ancient fortified castles.
We will take the opportunity to make a very small detour to visit the Moorish castle of Aguzaderos which has been declared a Spanish national monument.

As we continue our journey north, the terrain softens into rolling hills dotted with olive groves, cork oaks, and sunflower fields, especially beautiful in springtime.

Evening: Arrival in Seville

Upon arrival, we check into a historic and character filled 4/5 star hotel and freshen up for an evening of exploration.

In Seville, immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of the city. Explore the bustling streets, where the scent of tapas wafts through the air. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant, experiencing the rich flavors of Andalusian cuisine. As night falls, take a leisurely walk or carriage ride along the Guadalquivir River, soaking in the enchanting ambiance of the city.

Day 2: Discovering Italica and Beyond

Morning: Walking the Ancient Streets of Italica

After a restful night, your second day begins with a visit to Italica, the ancient Roman city just outside Seville. After a hearty breakfast, head to this remarkable archaeological site, where you’ll wander through ancient streets lined with impressive mosaics and ruins. Stand in awe of the amphitheater, one of the largest in the Roman Empire, and imagine the grand spectacles that once took place here.

As you explore, the rich history of Italica comes alive, transporting you back in time to an era of gladiators and emperors. The peaceful surroundings and stunning remnants of the past create a unique atmosphere, making it a must-visit destination.

Late Morning: Journey to Osuna; The Stunning Petra of Spain

Leaving Italica, we set out toward Osuna, a town known for its stunning architecture and rich heritage. The drive takes you through rolling hills and picturesque landscapes, with the Andalusian countryside providing a scenic backdrop. We will stop to visit the iconic Canteras de Osuna known also as the ‘Petra of Andalucia’ due to its resemblance to the famous Jordanian historic ruins.

Afternoon: Enjoy a scenic lunch and explore Ronda

For lunch, we will indulge in the local cuisine at a charming restaurant overlooking the gorge. Savor traditional Andalusian dishes, such as jamón ibérico, gazpacho, and freshly caught fish, all while enjoying the mesmerizing views that surround you. The combination of delicious food and stunning landscapes creates a perfect dining experience. After lunch, take time to explore Ronda’s rich history. Visit the historic bullring, one of the oldest in Spain, and learn about the significance of bullfighting in Andalusian culture. Stroll through the old town, marveling at the stunning architecture and picturesque squares. Late afternoon:  Back to Puerto Banús via Monda

Finally, we head back to Puerto Banús, through more spectacular mountain scenery, where you’ll conclude your adventure with a delightful evening cocktail at a beachfront bar. As you sip your drink, watch the sun dip below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the Mediterranean. It’s the perfect ending to an unforgettable journey through the enchanting landscapes of Andalucía.
